Forget about swimming in the open sea, the latest trend in wellness is wood-fired saunas and ice pools, best enjoyed with a sauna cap on.
Slomo Wellbeing returned to King’s Cross for a second year as a winter pop-up venue with two wood-fired saunas, three cold plunge pools and a fridge set around a live fire.
The event, which runs until March 2 at Lewis Cubitt Square, was organised by Slomo co-founder and wellness expert Rob da Bank and his wife Josie to provide a calming respite from the hustle and bustle of city life.RS-177

Other wellness activities include hot yoga, leaf rubs, salt body scrubs, women-only classes, silent sessions and the multi-sensory Aufguss ritual. At the end of each week, there is a special Sunday Best sauna session, accompanied by gong baths, soothing music, acoustic bands, Aufguss ceremonies, comedy shows or campfire singing.
Professor Green visited the swimming pool last month to promote the Mind Your Brain health campaign and regular MANDAY sessions to support men’s mental health and self-care.

(Photo: John Sturrock) The musician and CALM ambassador said: “Mental health is vitally important but is often misunderstood and stigmatised, particularly for men.
“Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50. We need to spread the word that it’s okay to talk about it. MANDAY is about encouraging men to take care of themselves – a safe space for men to rejuvenate, reflect and talk about their mental health. Let’s break down stigmas and support each other.” Rob and Josie da Bank said: “At Slomo, we aim to create social spaces and build community through wellness practices, and the sauna environment has created a wonderful atmosphere for people to slow down, relax and open up to conversation.”
“That’s why our men-only events are a great way to support the Manday programme in King’s Cross, and will take place outside of our usual Sauna Sister timeslots.”
MANDAY will run every Monday at 10am and 2pm for 50 minutes each. Slomo courses are priced at £9 off-peak and £12 on-peak and on selected courses.
