The Japanese activewear company has unveiled a capsule collection of head-to-toe weather protection, featuring designs that reflect its signature minimalist aesthetic.
Japanese outdoor brand Snow Peak has been bringing out a range of respected camping gear and apparel year after year, targeting those looking for technical pieces that combine form and function in a way other brands simply can’t match. Its latest addition, a discreet line of Gore-Tex rainwear, marks the first time Snow Peak has officially introduced the iconic material.
With the wet and slushy season approaching, the lightweight, waterproof Rain Collection feels like a natural next step to complement the minimalist outdoor essentials range and cement its position as a premium outdoor gear brand for both urban dwellers and avid outdoorsmen.
The laconic collection is always sophisticated and includes raincoats, waterproof trousers, waterproof hats and panamas. It is quite simple, but attractive in its simplicity.
The capsule’s star product is undoubtedly the lightweight, fully waterproof hooded raincoat ($500). The matching waterproof and protective pants ($375) feature a built-in waistband, zipped pockets, and knee-to-ankle zippers for easy on and off when wearing boots.
The waterproof kit also includes a stylish rain hat and baseball cap. For us, the Bucket Hat ($120) is the one to go for. To ensure protection from the elements, each garment has fully taped seams and waterproof zippers where needed. Each piece is made from 100% recycled polyester, is treated with a DWR finish, and is free of harmful PFC chemicals.
“The changing seasons call for layering,” explains the Snow Peak team, “and this collection offers versatile styles for all weather conditions.” Snow Peak cited nature’s transition from cool winter tones to warm greens, greys and blues, “which reflect damp mist, young plants and early spring skies,” as inspiration for its new color scheme. While the spring/summer collection is based on natural elements, the muted, understated tones also have a distinctly modern feel that’s sure to appeal to outdoor enthusiasts.
Since its founding in 1958, Gorpcore has evolved from producing iconic climbing and camping gear to producing innovative activewear, and most recently the brand has entered the outdoor hospitality market, announcing the opening of its first campground in North America this spring on 25 acres of coastal land in the brand’s hometown of Oregon.
Rest assured, we’ll be there to cover the opening of Snow Peak Longbeach Campfield. But until then, you should celebrate this humble gathering with us and count down the days to fondue by the sea and campfire cooking together.
The Snow Peak SS24 Rain collection is now available online and in two North American retail stores in Portland, Oregon and Brooklyn, New York.
