Premium automakers are replacing synthetic interiors with acoustic wool felt composites to meet stringent new EU noise regulations. Bentley’s recently unveiled Batur E features ”NASA-grade wool felt insulation” that reduces cabin noise by 15dB while cutting 42kg in weight versus traditional materials.

Technical Innovation
Developed with aerospace supplier Tex-Tech Industries, the patented ”3D-knitted wool felt” combines merino wool with recycled carbon fiber:

• 97% vibration absorption at 50-200Hz (critical EV whine range)
• Self-extinguishing within 2 seconds (UL94 V-0 rating)
• 0.3mm precision thickness for seamless integration

“Unlike synthetic automotive wool felt, our bio-composite felt actively purifies air through natural lanolin,” explains Bentley’s Chief Engineer, Marcus Reynolds. The material is used in 23 interior components from ”felt-backed dashboard panels” to ”ultra-dense speaker surrounds”.
