Designed by Virgil Abloh, artistic director of Louis Vuitton menswear, the Felt line consists of three bags inspired by moving blankets.
Specifically, Felt Line bags are made from 43% organic cotton and 20% recycled wool, with a 100% recycled polyester lining. All materials are sourced from the brand’s existing stock.
Additionally, the Soft Trunk chain and corners are made from 70% recycled plastic. While there are still leather elements in the bag, all leather (such as the straps and handles) is certified eco-tanned.
Abloh also designed the new LV logo for the Felt Line, which is meant to reflect the globally popular recycling symbol. The logo is printed on leather patches made from Louis Vuitton’s own stock.
Additionally, with the launch of the Felt Line, Louis Vuitton has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and announced its intention to achieve a goal of using 100% responsibly sourced materials by 2025. The French luxury brand also aims to recycle or reuse 100% of the materials used in its fashion shows, a figure that has already reached 93% in the past year.
Abloh’s Felt Line collection will be available in Louis Vuitton stores starting July 16. In addition to the bags, Louis Vuitton will also release a limited-edition signature coat made from the same recycled fabric as the bag collection.
