“You were expected to believe, and also to make others believe, that the history of Georgia started in 1921,” Gaprindashvili said. Still, under the Soviet regime, women could get educations and hold decent jobs. “The system of quotas created somewhat emancipating surroundings for women,” Gaprindashvili said. In the nineteen-eighties, as the Soviet Union dissolved, Georgian women sought to establish their own feminist lineage, often proudly citing Queen Tamara, who ruled Georgia from 1184 to 1213. But more recent history was a void. “Here was the main provocative question for me to research in the nineties,” Gaprindashvili recalled. “If we had women in the twelfth century, where are all the women from, for example, the nineteenth century?”

Mortal Kombat 11 has not launched with any loot boxes that can be purchased with real money, but the game is absolutely stuffed with dozens of them that must be opened with in-game currency. On paper, unlocking things with currency earned from simply playing the game is no issue at all. Unfortunately, in this case, these boxes are randomised, designed to keep players returning again and again to spend their Koins (or one of the other convoluted currencies) in order to open boxes in the hope that something inside is worth working towards.

These consequences are on full display in “Charged: The New Movement to Transform American Prosecution and End Mass Incarceration,” by Emily Bazelon, a lecturer at Yale Law School and staff writer at The New York Times Magazine. In “Charged,” a persuasive indictment of prosecutorial excess, Bazelon argues that the lawyers who work in the more than 2,000 prosecutors’ offices around the country — conducting investigations, filing criminal charges and trying cases (or, much more commonly, striking plea bargains) — bear much of the responsibility for over-incarceration, conviction of the innocent and other serious problems of the criminal justice system.

I continue to be surprised that I’ve enjoyed this game as much as I have.   Like I’ve said before, it fairly well embodies everything I would normally say I don’t like in a game, but they’ve done such a great job with he general game-design piece that I can overlook all that.  Each time I’ve felt like I’ve had my fill, I’ve stumbled into something else that seemed simple, but turned out to be a lot deeper than I’d expected.  Well, this week that was the food system.  There’s no telling what’s next.   I’ll probably find out my Palico can get different special skills for completing some sort of quests that I hadn’t learned about yet.

Still, scientific understanding has moved slowly. Funding for A.S.M.R. research is hard to justify, and the diverse nature of A.S.M.R. triggers can lead to “noisy” data. To date, ASMR University lists just 10 peer-reviewed papers. More than half of these were published in author-pay journals. The most rigorous studies use f.M.R.I. to map the activity of blood flow in the brain as participants report feeling the tingles. Outcomes have suggested, in very small samples, that A.S.M.R. might have something to do with socially bonding “affiliative behaviors,” known to release feel-good hormones like oxytocin.

Then, in 2014, Hellgate returned as a Steam Greenlight pitch as Hellgate Global, which includes a Tokyo expansion. But this didn’t end up going anywhere on these shores.

“We often think of prosecutors and defense lawyers as points of a triangle on the same plane, with the judge poised above them: equal contest, level playing field, neutral arbiter,” Bazelon writes. But this is a misconception. As the Brooklyn district attorney, Eric Gonzalez, puts it to her: “It’s all about discretion. Do you authorize the arrest, request bail, argue to keep them in jail or let them out, go all out on the charges or take a plea bargain? Prosecutors decide, especially, who gets a second chance.”
