Felt busy boards are emerging as a valuable tool in special education classrooms. Educators working with children who have learning disabilities, such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and ADHD, have found that these boards can be customized to meet the specific needs of each student. For children with ASD, the repetitive and sensory – rich activities on the felt busy boards can help with self – regulation and focus. The soft texture of the felt is soothing, and the hands – on nature of the activities encourages interaction. In ADHD classrooms, the boards are used as a way to channel excess energy into productive learning. Teachers often use the boards as a part of individualized education programs (IEPs), and the results have been promising. There is now a growing call for more research on the effectiveness of felt busy boards in special education, with the hope of further integrating them into educational curriculums for special needs students.
