From December through March, the American Swedish History Museum will have three saunas available for reservation.

When it gets chilly, one of our favorite ways to warm up is to visit a sauna. Not only will you feel warm and comfortable, but you will also feel happy and relieve muscle pain.
Luckily, there are plenty of wellness centres in the area offering saunas. Better yet, a new sauna (!) has opened in the city park, perfect for a year-end break.
The Ebba Sparre Sauna Center, scheduled to open on December 26, is a short-term steam room hosted by the American Swedish History Museum and Scout, the company behind Bok. The temporary experience center will be located in the museum’s Roosevelt Park.
Three barrel saunas are available for booking, each accommodating up to four people. Each sauna session includes complimentary towels, biodegradable swimsuit bags, locker access, and free entry to ASHM. Additional merchandise, such as sauna hats and face masks, is also available for purchase on site.
A 45-minute session costs $120 on weekdays and $150 on weekends. Specials, such as the 90-minute Long Schwyz, cost $200.
You might be thinking that a sauna is located near the city museum? That’s complete nonsense! Just think about how important the sauna is in everyday life for Swedes and Scandinavian culture in general. “Bastu” (“sauna” in Swedish) is considered an important part of self-care – a ritual designed to support emotional, social and physical well-being – so it’s no surprise that the sauna was first introduced by the Swedish Medical Association (ASHM).
“We’re excited to partner with Scout to give Philadelphians the opportunity to enjoy an outdoor sauna this winter and experience the refreshing heat and cold that northerners love,” said Tracy Baker, executive director of the American Swedish History Museum. She added that the timing is perfect, as the museum recently opened its “Sauna is Life” exhibit.
The temporary event will be open from December 26 to March 29, registration hours: Tuesday to Thursday 10:00 to 16:00, Friday 10:00 to 18:00, Saturday and Sunday 12:00 to 18:00. You can book here.
