As a two-dog owner, I am constantly vacuuming pet hair off the floor and furniture, brushing my dogs’ fur, and using a lint roller on my clothes to remove excess dog hair. Shedding season is my worst nightmare. I usually forgo the frantic cleaning and grooming and accept the thin layer of hair that has already accumulated in my home.
There are hundreds of pet products on the market that claim to solve hair loss problems or remove loose hair after shedding, but my favorite is the Groomer’s Stone pet grooming tool. It’s definitely not a fancy or high-tech dog grooming tool (in fact, it comes to us from some good old dog and horse show organizer), but it’s definitely a product worth the hype.
This affordable pumice-like tool is great for removing shedding, dirt, and debris from your dog’s coat, but it’s even better at removing stubborn hair from couches, carpets, pillows, and clothing.
Dog show exhibitors and equestrian enthusiasts have used pumice and similar products as horse grooming tools for years. A small pumice or grooming stone can act as a razor to remove excess hair, and is also great for short-haired dogs (and horses), giving their coats a shine and removing dirt buildup.
I recently started showing my Rough Collie puppies in the American Kennel Club (AKC) show ring, and during grooming class, my instructor (a longtime AKC Rough Collie show instructor) taught me how to use a grooming stone. He used a small, similar stone to help my Collie remove excess hair from the top of his head.
After looking at a few random beauty stones on Amazon, I finally found this one and after using it once, I fell in love with it. Not only does it help me remove my dog’s double undercoat, but it’s also just the right amount of firmness to easily remove dog hair from couches, carpets, clothing, and more.
As the name suggests, the beauty stone’s primary purpose is beauty. For double coated dog breeds with a soft, fluffy undercoat, it grabs loose undercoat and promotes a smooth shedding. It works great on my wire-coated collies, as well as golden retrievers, shetlands, Australian shepherds, great pyrenees, samoyeds and other breeds with similar undercoats. For single coated dog breeds, it can remove dead hair and maintain the coat’s shine. I have found that it sometimes grabs a strand or two of the outer coat on my collie, but it is much better than a deshedding tool like a furminator, which can be damaging to a healthy dog.
In addition to removing hair, a grooming stone is also effective at removing debris from your dog’s coat. Dog running around in the mud? No problem. I’ve found that instead of throwing my dog ​​in the tub when his coat gets matted, a grooming stone does a great job of removing dried dirt and dust. I also use it to remove burrs and burrs from my collie’s long coat.
While the Groomer’s Stone is great for grooming, what I loved most about it was its ability to remove pet hair. Sure, a vacuum can pick up pet hair from your furniture, but even my Dyson Gen5 Outsize gets stuck to my couch. I also tried the ChomChom Pet Hair Remover, and while it did a good job of cleaning my couch, it left me with static after use and did absolutely nothing to remove the lint from years of dog ownership.
The cleaning stone solves both problems: in just a few swipes, it will remove all the dog hair from your couch (even the stuff that seems to have woven itself into the couch itself), and it will also remove the lint. I was about to spend hundreds of dollars on new couch covers because they were so worn out, but now, after using this $13 cleaning stone, my couch looks like new again.
The Pet Hair Stone can be used to remove stubborn pet hair from car seats, textured carpet, rugs, and even some clothing. I probably wouldn’t use it to clean delicate fabrics because of the rough texture, but it’ll work for washing just about any other item of clothing. I often use it to remove hair that falls out when I wear black leggings. Just keep in mind that it doesn’t always grab all the hair it pulls from the surface like a brush or ChomChom, so you may still need to vacuum it up or pick up the hair with your hands after use (though given the price, it’s a smart move).
At just $13, you won’t find a better all-around grooming tool than the Groomer’s Stone. If you’re struggling with your long-haired dog’s frequent shedding or just want to keep dog hair off your couch with a cheaper alternative to a $500 vacuum, you’ll want to check out this compact brick. While it’s not great at absorbing dog hair, it’s great at removing dead undercoat and cleaning dirt and other debris stuck to your dog’s coat, not to mention its ability to effectively clean dog hair off couches and clothing.
