Louis Vuitton has just unveiled three new bags: three new bags that not only embody the brand’s iconic travel concept, but also include a new commitment to sustainability. Together, they form the Felt Line collection, which debuted at last year’s Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2021 show and has since become a signature design element of Virgil Abloh’s tenure at Louis Vuitton. Now, they’ve been redesigned for a more eco-friendly look.
The Keepall, Keepall XS and Soft Trunk are menswear essentials that embody Louis Vuitton’s new sustainability standard. The bags are created using a circular production method and are made from a variety of eco-friendly materials, in line with Louis Vuitton’s broader sustainability plan to achieve sustainable production for all its products by 2025. The core material of the bags is therefore an innovative new textile made from 43% certified organic cotton and 20% recycled wool, inspired by the multi-coloured composition of a moving blanket. This combination of materials gives each bag a unique look, sometimes revealing the monogram underneath the bag, sometimes hiding it under the lines of lurex.
The rest of the bag’s lining is made from 100% recycled polyester from the brand’s stockpiles, which is recycled and used in the Felt Line to reduce the use of new materials. This circular approach is also reflected in the chain and edges of each bag, which are made from 70% recycled plastic and feature a multi-color effect that complements the jacquard’s spotted look. For leather, a material that is integral to the Vuitton brand, the House collaborated with the Leather Working Group, a nonprofit organization that certifies the world’s leading sustainable leathers for bag straps and handles. Overall, the new collection is an exciting culmination of sustainable design that promises to shape the future of luxury fashion.
