The widespread share got the attention of Prince’s lawyers, who sent a cease-and-desist letter regarding the sale of LPP merchandise. “I thought — and still think — it’s far enough removed from original artwork [e.g. album covers] that I was free and clear under fair use law,” Gua says. (He has a full explanation on his website.) To be safe, he switched the project for a time to a doll in his own image (Le Petit Troy), which he dressed as Prince, Michael Jackson, David Bowie and other pop figures. But the pull of Prince was strong. Gua returned to LPP, making sure not to replicate trademarks, and at the Prince Estate’s request added a disclaimer to his site explaining that LPP is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by the estate.
The one button design makes it very user-friendly and it can hold a charge for around 45 minutes. You get one replacement filing head and it also comes in a metallic blue and white.
When the Vilas family donated the land for the zoo as a gift to the city of Madison, they had one request—that it never charge admission in memory of their son. And so, whether you want to spend an entire day or just a few hours at the park, it’s completely free of charge, as one of ten zoos that offer no-cost admission. FYI: The zoo’s newest (and largest) exhibit is Arctic Passage, with underwater viewing of polar bears, seals, and grizzlies.
I love wearing my Darn Tough socks with boots, but if I’m wearing a low-cut shoe or desert boot, I like having something a little more interesting. I bought a few pairs of Anonymous Ism socks earlier in the winter, and they’ve become my favorite socks. I recently did a Marie Kondo–fueled sock-drawer purge — starting with the easiest things, this was hard enough — and my general guiding principle is to get more socks like those Anonymous Ism ones. That means doing a lot more laundry because these aren’t cheap, but I’m okay with that. These are made from really thick cotton, so they’re warm enough for a mild winter day, and they’ll probably work in the spring too because the weave is pretty loose. I like that they’re a little wild, but still subtle. (I also bought them in green which they call “khaki” but I think it’s more of a yellowy-green.)
If you end up feeling lost as you wander through the rooms of these two exhibitions, you won’t be alone. By attempting to serve as both an overview of Native artistic traditions and a period-specific demonstration of how these traditions responded to several centuries of colonization, the Met exhibitions end up offering a curiously lopsided history of Native America. Most of the plaques describe only the use or design of an item on display, while the historical commentary from Native artists and scholars homes in on colonization. The actual extent of influence and exchange, as well as the impacts of forced religious and cultural assimilation in the Spanish colonies and American territories, is never entirely clear. Yup’ik masks celebrating survival take on a different meaning when one learns they were created in the immediate aftermath of the Great Sickness of 1900, in which many Alaska Native communities lost as much as 50 percent of their population. But you will have to learn that on your own; the exhibition doesn’t mention it.
With no entity charged to oversee Devils Hole and the pupfish, the deep cavernous pool gained fame among locals. The area, with the pupfish swimming serenely within it, was subject to constant trespass. To this day, locals often refer to Devils Hole as the “Miner’s Bathtub.”

For breastfeeding mothers in Central Minnesota in the past, donating excess breast milk may have involved driving to the Twin Cities or finding dry ice to ship their milk. Now, though, making such donations is much more convenient. Since March 27, people have been able to drop off donated milk at St. Cloud Hospital’s milk depot. The milk is intended for medically vulnerable infants in need. “If we can have this for (infants), it’s really saved their life and helped them stay healthier,” says Jeanne Friebe, a nurse and lactation consultant at the birthing center and depot coordinator. The St. Cloud depot collects milk from prescreened donors by appointment. The donations are collected and processed by the Minnesota Milk Bank for Babies, which became accredited last month.
“Pick an egg to copy,” Freeman says as she begins each session, and everyone laughs. It’s fantasy to think that anyone can easily dupe her eggs but, nevertheless, everyone feels their creative juices kicking in and the fun begins.
A wide margin of Tennesseans support allowing people convicted of felonies to vote after they’ve served their time, according to a new poll released Thursday by a national advocacy group. According to the poll from Secure Democracy, 67% of Tennessee voters support legislation that would allow people with felony convictions to vote again after they’ve completed their sentences and paid their court fees. Secure Democracy is a nonpartisan group that works on election issues. That support holds among voters affiliated with both political parties. According to the poll, 60% of Tennessee Republicans support restoring voting for felons who have fulfilled the requirements of their sentences, according to the poll. So do 78% of Democrats.
