wool bonnet FAQ

FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are wool polishing bonnets used for?

Bonnets are fabric pad covers used to buff off waxes and polishes with your polisher or buffer.

What are the different types of buffing pads?

What types of Buffing Pads Exist? There are three major classifications of pads. There are foam, wool, and microfiber buffing pads. Each of these pads can be used on either Dual Action Orbital or Rotary Polisher as long as the pad is the same, or slightly larger, diameter as the backing plate on your chosen polisher.

How many times can you use a polishing pad?

How Many Pads Do I Need? The cutting/compounding process will result in more material being removed and therefore more dust and residue will be present. This often means more pads will be required for compounding than polishing. In general, I recommend at least 3 of each type of pad to allow for best results.

Can you wash buffing pads?

Since most of the compound and polishing products today are water based, most all purpose cleaners will do a pretty nice job and dissolving product residue. Saturate, kneed in, let sit for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly. A pad washer using a citrus cleaning solution does a great job cleaning up these pads.
